EarzUp on The Disneyland Resort, Pt. 4

It’s the final chapter of the EarzUp podcast team details that they love at the Disneyland resort, starting with:

11. The Garbage Cans. All themed to the land that they’re in; they did not have to do this at all; it’s a garbage can!

12. The Wooden sidewalks in Frontierland. Most parks would overlook, but these authentic planks are awesome, and they make a cool sound when you walk on them! (I think I can hear it right now)

13. The majority of DL attractions are inside. The attractions are mainly inside, allowing the exterior to act as a carnival barker with sneak peaks of what’s inside, drawing you in and building the excitement.

14. The Indiana Jones queue. It’s interesting and entertaining, but yes…they should fix the ceiling thing!

15. The small shells in the concrete of the Ariel attraction. Small sea shells crushed up into the concrete; like being at the beach. Helps set the stage for being underwater.

16. The nods to where past things have stood. Melvin, Buff, and Max still within Winnie the Pooh, Eyeore parking sign inside of Indiana Jones…incorporating the past into the present is amazing.

17. The ability to crowd control. At parades, the cast members do a great job with the little space that they have in keeping guests moving.

18. Walt Disney is everywhere. Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Flag Ceremony, and Lillian’s Petrified Tree. Guests don’t necessarily flock to/notice these attractions, and yet they are still there.

19. The old espresso machine in CafĂ© Orleans. Crafted in 1905 and supposedly purchased by Walt himself. The world’s first commercial espresso machine. Non-functioning now, though.

Quite a bit there, but I am also sure there are a number missing, too. What would YOU add?

I can't imagine what to add, and some of these are general enough that they cover a lot. The most important one is keeping Walt everywhere. The day the forsake Walt is truly the day the whole park can be forgotten.

I love Disneyland’s flowerbeds. Though there are less of them now, compared to 50 years ago, what’s there is still lovely, and so colorful. Even now, whenever I see bright yellow and purple flowers together, I’m instantly transported back 50 years in time, standing at the entrance to Tomorrowland.

Thanks, Dave!

I'm casting a vote for the big outdoor attractions: Jungle Cruise, Rivers of America, Radiator Springs Racers, Big Thunder Mountain, Autopia, even Storybook Canal Boats. Instead of just seeing a show you've traveled through a landscape. You feel like you've BEEN somewhere, a sensation you rarely get at any non-Disney park.

Bryan - let's hope that day doesn't happen.

Lou & Sue - The landscaping at the Park truly is spectacular.

DBenson - Your comment jogged my brain...and the Disneyland Railroad! It reminds me of the day when travel used to be fun and something you would look forward to!

You and Sue's got a good point. The thoughtfully crafted flower beds and Landscape do 10 to set it apart from other Parks which simply dropped plants here and there and think they've accomplished the same thing. They have not, Disney does something specific and spectacular.

Agreed with DBenson as well oh, those outdoor rides really make you feel like you've been somewhere. I have always detested roller coasters that are nothing more than steel sticking into the sky and I cannot understand how other people enjoy those types of parks. Compare any roller coaster at Six Flags versus any Mountain at Disney or even the outdoor rides. There is no comparison. I would rather be on a simplistic Disney coaster that actually shows you something every square foot of the ride. By contrast, all those coaster parks just show you all the garbage cans as you fly by.

I've taken the railroad for granted at Disneyland. To see the route of the railroad, and for that matter the rivers of America, at Disney world is depressing. Our Park really has the more fascinating ride on either train or Paddle Wheel boat.

Fifthrider, autocorrect does stuff like that to me, all the time. ;o)

DBenson & Fifthrider, you both pinpointed the best thing about Disneyland (Disney Parks). Most of the attractions are adventures!
