Here’s another one from August 1956. Fort Wilderness has been closed up for awhile now, and is used as a staging ground for the show “Fantasmic!”, located on the Rivers of America. Here’s to hoping that they eventually open it back up again.

Wow another great image. In the foreground just on the shore are a neat scenic element that did not last long, two graves with painted tombstones. I wonder if Disneyland moved these graves and made the graveyard by the fort as seen today. Also the sparse landscaping really shows the fort. Now it is very grown.
Wow, I never noticed those graves before. Interesting! Now I'll have to pay attention to my early Fort Wilderness slides to see if they're there.
How cool! Like Major Pepperidge, “I never knew there were graves along the river.” I remember the graveyard behind the fort, but never along the river. It’s interesting to see the fence by the fort too… placed there just in case some kid decides to dig up the remains of whoever was laid to rest. It would be interesting to see if you could zoom in and read the tombstones.
