A recent 1965 batch of slides yielded this shot of the Disneyland Hotel. In an example of not-so-great planning, the sign had to read “Hotel Disneyland” because of the location of the elevator. Oops. This sign debuted in 1963 but was corrected in 1966 when the building was widened. The below March 1964 shot gives a nice panoramic view of the hotel from the parking lot:
…and the signs for the Coffee Shop (at left) and the Restaurant by Gourmet on the right.
The 1965 batch of slides had this shot of a family enjoying breakfast at the Coffee Shop.
Let’s see what they had: eggs sunny side up, one order of pancakes, and two scrambled breakfasts. A good start to the day!
This detail shows a sign pronouncing the Top of the Park, the lounge you could reach via the same poorly-planned elevator from the first two shots.

Just the shot of the multi-windowed VW bus is a gem. Those are quite the collectors item today! I see the empty parking lot and reminds me of the Monday-Tuesday days the Park was closed during the 'slow' season. KS
I especially love that 'you are there' breakfast shot! Look at the fancy plates and cups they're using. Those folks are drinking fresh-squeezed orange juice...and maybe(?) from the trees on the property.
These images bring back wonderful memories for me, from that era. Thank you, Dave!

"Oops" indeed, on that debacle between the sign and the exterior elevator. You have to wonder if there was some mechanical or architectural reason forcing placement of the elevator shaft towards the south side of the building, where it appears it could just as easily been placed towards the north had the sign always been a consideration in the initial design. It gives every indication of being what amounted to an afterthought, forcing a 'flopped' name.
'Measuring twice and sawing once', notwithstanding, the views of that al fresco breakfast, as Sue said, definitely bring back memories and make my mouth water.
