And now we get to the meat and potatoes of this Audie Murphy series. An interior view of the Frontierland Shooting Gallery! Audie shows his son how to fire Betsy. Below is a closeup of the lady in the background holding her Disneyland Guide.
In the background, you'll note a bunch of stuff hanging on the wall.
Based on this other photo showing Audie with his wife, it would appear that the Frontierland Shooting Gallery was attached to a shopping area.
Only $8.95 for a hand-painted skirt. Heck, you probably couldn't get a hand-painted roll of toilet paper from Disney today!
The Murphy family is posing for a photo with the wax figures of Davy Crockett (Fess Parker) and George Russell (Buddy Ebsen) in the Frontier Arcade:
Here you can see a sample posted of what your money is buying:
I don't think I ever realized that the coon skin caps sold had branding on the top of them:
Have to get a closer look at the portrait as it's being shot. Say “cheese”!
This Murphy family shot is from the interior of the Golden Horseshoe Saloon; wonder if they got to meet Wally Boag, too?

Davy Crockett statue: "Want your photo with me? I killed me a bear when I was only three."
Audie: "How quaint. I put Hitler out of business."
This was probably the one time two statues wanted their picture with someone else.
What great interior shots-! I love the 'photo opportunity' backdrop. Interesting, my Davy Crockett coon skin hat (from 1956) has fur encompassing the entire outside, without the branding as seen here. I presume it was a removable label of some sort.
Bryan - Still laughing.
Nanook - Maybe this was some kind of alternate version; whatever it is on top does not look removable. Either way, I would prefer my coon skin cap WITHOUT the branding!
I mean to ask, where IS this? If I'm looking at this correctly it almost looks like the shooting gallery is indoors, and with a gift shop in the background? I recall shots of the gallery's original location when originally opened, and I recall it being in the same general place today, but was there ever a time when it was moved across the street and into the gift shop?
Bryan - I think (and I could be wrong) that this is inside the area that is now the Pioneer Mercantile (or at least that's what it was called on my last visit almost 4 years ago!).
Now that I think about it...I wonder if this is the Adventureland shooting gallery and the Adventureland Bazaar? Anyone?
Dave-
You are correct, in that the 'shooting gallery' is inside the Pioneer Mercantile; or, back then, the Davy Crockett Frontier Arcade. The 'fancy' merchandise was part of a large swath of the Davy Crockett Museum that was converted in 1956 by Chris Portillo into a 'Mexican Village'. So, I'm going to assume the butt of 'ol Betsy we see being held in Audie's right hand was a part of the "electronic" shooting gallery that remained in that area up through the mid-1980's
(Thanks to "The 55ers" for most of this info).
