Storming the Castle, July 18, 1955

This photo shows the aftermath of when the drawbridge was lowered. Although slightly blurry, I love the fact that everyone is rushing to cross over into Fantasyland, not knowing what they might encounter.

See more vintage & current Disneyland photos at my main website.

I love the action, reminds me of when I was a kid running to the Matterhorn or Space Mountain!

Great photo! Is this castle still in Disneyland? ;-)

Major- they have replaced it with one made out of pink icing and gold cake decorations! ;-)

Although I have enjoyed the fact that they have lavished attention on the park for the 50th, I will not be upset when they remove the Tijuana Bling-Bling from the Castle. I was so disappointed when I first saw it. AWFUL! Just AWFUL!!!!

I agree with you Dave. My comments
on the "Bring back the People Mover" petition where; Powder Blue, Yellow, Silver, White...bring the magic back to Tomorrowland, save your brown paint for Frontierland!

Dave, I almost forgot there was a Disneyland before the digital age, so few pictures on the web prior to 1995. ... And you have so many, and such GREAT ones! When I saw the 1955 Fantasyland Opening "drawbridge stampede" pic you have here, it brought back my personal memories of being at the 1983 reopening ceremony.

Any chance you have, or could track down a similar pic from 1983. (I realize it has far less significance, but still, it would be cool to have the set of images)
