This shot, although a little faded, is a great overall view of the Town Square on opening day, 1955. Matterhorn confirmed it with a link to another site that shows the same ceremony from a different view. This one goes in the books as a PLEASANT ebay surprise. Thanks Matterhorn!

Hey Dave- Looking closer at the image I do believe it is opening day. You can see several of the Horseless Carriage cars parked by the Opera House and the Main Street Station. Also, in the middle you see a group of four people in suits that appear to be Walt and Lillian (hid by the trees), Walts Nephew Reverend Glenn Puder and Governer Goodwin Knight. Also the Marine band from El Toro was on hand that day for the flag raising ceremony. The photographer was good as he managed to block any of the cameras in the scene. Check out this view from the ground of a similar shot and look for the cars in the background and the gentleman in the white suit (http://www.startedbyamouse.com/archives/DatelineDisneyland02.shtml)
Wow, talk about a find...images from opening day have to be about as scarce as hen's teeth. Awesome!
