I know, I know…Easter is barely over and here I am posting Christmas photos. This first shot was taken on New Year’s Eve, 1961 (that’s December 31 for those of you not good with dates/numbers!). The Matterhorn Christmas Star looms over Snow White’s Wishing Well. This image calls for a few detailed views.

A charming look back at the low key holiday seasons. I saw the Matterhorn star in its last year, Christmas '72, when I got to visit Disneyland twice during the winter school break. Tour # 1 was the week before Christmas, when the park was lightly attended; no waits for even the E-Tickets. Tour 2 was after the 25th, when the park was jammed. Apparently that was the situation for years to come, the theory being that folks were too busy preparing for the holiday to go to the Magic Kingdom.
The carolers are lovely; somehow early '60s hair styles and makeup go very well with Victorian fashion. Actually those styles look good with any combo.
Thanks for sharing Stefano. I love stories like that which add to the pictures. Those decorations bring back memories of tree items that were basically gold or silver foil with very few lights, or fragile glass tree ornaments I dare not take out storage anymore.
Well said Stefano. Visiting before Christmas was a charming time to see the park and to enjoy the decorations. I was lucky to work there during that period. It's overrun almost daily now to the point that I don't enjoy it anymore. KS
I went to WDW last January from 01/05-01/19 and by the end of the 19th they STILL had Christmas decorations in the parks. STILL! Not just the specialty Christmas stores but at the entrances of the parks, etc. Stop, enough already.
