Book and Candle Shop, November 1958
This November 1958 shot on Main Street U.S.A. features the Disneyland Marching Band. Often, the coolest parts of the photos are the details. Here in the background you can see the Book and Candle Shop. This location (known as #107 as far as Main Street address-speak goes) is now part of the Fortuosity Shop.
Here's an interior shot from the 1960's:
That's a lot of Candles!

The bookstore was one of my favorite places. We always went through it on the way out.
I was encouraged to buy a book for a souvenir instead of a toy. I usually picked science and technology titles. I still have several, books about physics and insects, etc. "A Day At Beetle Rock", etc. Aimed at the 10 year old reader, of course, and tied indirectly to Tomorrowland or Nature's Wonderland.
That was back when Disneyland sold things that did not directly promote the Movie Of The Week. Sigh.

This was the best shop. All the visual eye candy, and the lovely smell. It truly left a wonderful impression.
If you added a bell, it would have been a good tie-in with bednobs and broomsticks!
I would have loved that shop, I just know it!
The diversity of Main Street has sadly been lost over the years to everything Disney.
