Christmas in August: Frontierland, December 1962

Today marks the end of this particular series as we visit the Old West. Shot #1 shows the Frontierland Depot, before New Orleans Square came to town. Don’t forget to buy your ticket before you get in line!

Business seems a little slow over at The Horseshoe; poor guy is just standing out front, hoping for a guest to come in.

Over on Tom Sawyer’s Island, the Old Mill looks...well, old!

Finally! A few guests! Here they are aboard the Mark Twain:

To finish out the post, I leave you with a trio of shots from Disneyland’s neighbor, Knotts Berry Farm. Same batch. Same time.

Love that photo of the Calico Mine Train exterior... it must have been down that day. Not a soul to be seen! Can you imagine walking all the way to the back of the park only to discover that your favorite ride was closed?

It looks like there is a sign that reads "Gone With The Wind" in the upper left corner of that second Knott's photo.

The 'Gone with the Wind' sign is above the old outhouse. It was popular for folks to sit on the throne and 'pose' for a picture.

Thanks Berm - never would have been able to answer that one!

Major - The Mansion is one attraction I often walk briskly to and 99% of the time it is open. However, ever since The Davy Jones mist effect was added, POTC has not been so reliable. I have noticed that often it takes longer for that one to open up in the morning.

Thanks for the close-up of the sign at the Frontierland station. I wonder how far back you had to walk to buy a ticket?
