48 Years Ago: December 1961, Pt. 3
Before I delve into Tomorrowland, I realized I left one out from Town Square. No, this man isn’t checking his Blackberry! C’mon people, remember this is 1961!
For all you fans of camel colored coats, this slide will drive you bananas—for the rest of us, please just look past him and enjoy the view of the Moonliner!
The Submarine Voyage is in full swing today, and we’re going to see quite a few images of it—hope you don’t mind!
In this Skyway shot, the track is visible as well as all of the rocks and coral inside of the lagoon...but no mermaids today.
Anybody care to ride The Triton today? Looks like you might be out of luck as it appears to be docked for the time being.
A few views taken from the portholes:
Who could resist getting a shot of this adorable creature? He was pretty much the star of the attraction:
Back on dry land we see all kinds of things: The Matterhorn, The Skyway, the General Dynamics platform for the Yachtsmen, and the sign for the Monorail station.
The crazy gray "arms" that you saw in the previous shot belong to the Astro Jets. It’s either very early in the day and the kids haven't had time to run over here yet, or they aren’t working either.
Last one for today shows the Autopia entrance and Ticket Booth:
See more Disneyland photos at my website.

Dave; I would guess that it's rather early in the AM due to the long shadow of the moonliner which points directly to the control booth of the jets.
I loves me some Camel Coats...good one Dave.
I miss the old Bekins Livery Stable building. It was plain and brick, which made for a nice contrast with the rest of the square.
I'll pass on riding the Triton, thanks. My favorite was always the Ethan Allen, makers of quality sofas and submarines.
I never tire of early Tomorrowland pics. And these are some very coll ones.
I am a fan of camel colored ANYTHING. Do you think that the Surrey driver got his coat at the Pendleton store?
All dreamy pics - thanks! Last one is extra sweet; ticket booth and vintage Autopia fence!!!! Thanks Dave, loving this "48 years ago" series.
I was thinking the same thing as Katella Gate about the Bekins facade. The newer facades that replaced it have always seemed out of place to me.
I want that finial and sign on top of the Tomorrowland ticket booth!
I LOVED that sea serpent!! Too bad they didn't include him in the Nemo redo for posterity.
There is some rockwork at the end of Nemo that very loosely resembles the sea serpent. There is supposedly a mermaid hidden somewhere in the rockwork too, but I haven't been able to make that one out yet.
