500th Post Anniversary Series: Aug. ’55, Bob & “Me” Finale

Last one in the popular Bud & Betty series. All the ladies outside Mr. Toad have noticed our stylish heroine, Betty, and are staring at her. The lady with the large corsage knows she’s been outdone and can’t bear to look. Bud shows his sense of humor in shot 2 as he imitates Captain Hook. Betty’s caption on the back of the photo says, "Bud–no arm no hook?"

Not only is Betty a dish, but she can ride a horse, too. This final photo shows Betty crossing a Frontierland bridge with the stagecoach horses.

Thanks to all my readers, and especially the ones who take the time to comment, giving everyone more information and making it even more fun to see these classic images.

That last photo is great. It does look like she has hopped on the horses and is ready to hijack the stagecoach!

Thanks so much for these Dave! Since I have fallin in love with Betty (sorry Bud!) Can you possibly scan some of her writing on the backs of these photo's. I bet her hand-writing is sweet :-)

Maybe Bud is waiting for a hand-out.

Ok. That was terrible. Someone needs to remove my blogger access!

Tim - you are correct..Betty's handwriting is just as sweet as you would imagine it! And George...you belong in bad pun purgatory today.

Great photos! The picture where Bud is such a cut-up, youy can see what looks like the ghost of the words "Pirate Ship" above the word "restaurant"...guess they hadn't had time to paint the sign completely?

Major - I thought the same thing about the "ghosted" letters when I first saw it; however, the letters were painted red, and against a brown background in a bw photo, they basically do not have enough color contrast to show up well. I don't know if it's just me, but Bud reminds me of Wallace Shawn.

WOW Dave, you are right on with the Wallace Shawn comparison, it’s his doppelganger! Go to:

"That's inconceivable!"

This has been my favorite series so far. When I started reading your blog several months ago, I went back and read EVERY one of them in sequence, and this one tops them all. It's not the quality of the photos, but the sensitivity of the content, and the story between the lines. Great choices Dave. Somehow Bob and Betty remind me of Don and Betty Draper of "Mad Men". Hummmm!

To answer you question from the 25th about the badge: Yes! It's the very same. Those metal badges were issued with individual employee numbers (not names) between '55 & '62. You can get a repro at http://www.toykrazy.com/d212.html, and even that is rare because it was available only to cast members at the time of DL's 40th anniversary.

Keep up the fantastic time travel.
