Upjohn Pharmacy, Pt. 2

Leeches at Disneyland? Yech!

HEALTHY CURIOSITY (THIRD OF FIVE)

A slightly-scary exhibit makes Cathy Smith's eyes pop as she looks at a jar of leeches, the flat worms once considered very important in medicine. As part of the treatment of a variety of ailments, the creatures were used to draw blood from patients.

  1. Notice that those are EUROPEAN leeches. Classy! They probably have little monocles.

Good old fashioned Minnesota lake leeches are good enough for me, they must have gotten a few pints of my blood over the years.

    PS, yuck.

  2. So what did Disneyland feed their "pet" leeches?

  5. Very, very funny, Major! Monocles!

Actually, you'll notice that the leeches are no longer on display in the park. They worked their way into management. Who do you think decides the ticket prices?

  6. When I went to Land, I asked about feeding the leeches. The man smiled and said that he stuck his own arm in the jar.
