Unknown Main Street U.S.A. Vehicle

Here’s a rarity—well, for me at least! I have never seen this vehicle before, sitting on East Center Street. Circa 1958 (note the promo for the recently launched Columbia), be sure to note the cute little tyke in the lower left-hand corner.

  1. Dave- That is the Swifts Premium Red Wagon. It was parked by the Swifts Market House on Main Street. This is the reason the restaurant was named Swifts Red Wagon Inn.

  2. Thanks Patrick! Doesn't seem like it was parked there for very long, as it doesn't seem to show up in any other photos I've seen - or else I just haven't noticed it.

  3. WOW - there really was a Red Wagon? Shouldn't it be parked over by the restaurant, approximately where the corn dog wagon is now? Hey, the corn dog wagon is red too!

  5. Nice photo, I have a picture of this, but with no umbrella! Notice the seldom-seen coin shop in the background as well.

  6. The photographs I have of the wagon are also from 1958 with the same sign post shield in the background. I know there is a postcard of the Market House that features the wagon as well.

  7. There's that room again with the telephone sign above the doorway. We got a peek at it in Major Pepperidge's May 18, 2009 post....the edge of the wagon can also be seen in that photo!

This is a neat one, Dave!
