August 1959

1959 is one of the most exciting years in the park’s history. 3 of the biggest attractions opened all at the same time: The Monorail, The Matterhorn, and The Submarine Voyage. Happily, all three are still with us, although the Subs have had a bit of a change theme. Shot #1 for today shows the banners over Main Street proclaiming the new attractions as the Horse-Drawn Streetcar is pulled underneath.

Here’s a gleaming new Monorail taking passengers over the Submarine Voyage:

A little motion blur, showing two of the Monorail and the Matterhorn:

  2. More great photos, Dave! Do you happen to know why or when they got rid of the stone bridge on this side of the Matterhorn? I only noticed this recently, but it's now just "rockwork".
