Here are two from the same undated batch as yesterday (the ones with the rock at the Castle) featuring the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship, with the original round Skyway buckets overhead.
As a bonus, here are 2 slightly dark views of the ship a few years later during the Tencenniel, Sept. 1965; obviously the new square bucket has arrived on the scene by now. Please excuse the stroller in the middle of the shot.

It still seems strange to me that one of the most popular icons of Fantasyland was torn down...just think of how many zillions of photos were taken of it!
ReplyDeleteThey tried to move it, but because of it's construction it broke in several parts. Money was not available to build a new one, so we all lost out.
ReplyDeleteCorrection: money was not RELEASED. Where there's a will there's a way. But yes, we did lose out.
ReplyDeleteDon't you find it interesting that in the '65 shots that the sails are unfurled? I wonder if this was for the Tencenniel. Not many people speak of the food at the Chicken of the Sea. I remember a HOT tuna burger w/chips and a root beer I would get there for lunch, and sit by the waterfall skull and enjoy the shade. It was one of the nicest places to eat in that area, unless you would go all the way down to Main Street. It was an easy walk from our "circle", and was a good price.Employees were to eat away from guest areas, but we got away with it because we were lessees. And, skull rock was a great place at night with all the colored lights and running water.
