I thought this was a pretty interesting shot, since it’s definitely not something you’d see these days: fathers and sons fishing at Disneyland in the Rivers of America. Anyone know much more about this short-lived phenomenon?

Dave- Walt wanted the experience on Tom Sawyers Island to be very complete. So Disneyland would stock the Rivers of America with fish and you could borrow a fishing pole and actually catch a fish. The problem was once a fish is caught, the guest would have to carry it around. And as fish is carried around, it starts to smell. Sometimes the fish were left on rides and the fish smell would linger. Not wanting the whole park to smell like fish, Disneyland stopped the fishing. If you look at some of the older Tom Sawyer Island Maps you will see the location of the fishing spot marked.
