Maybe Martin Monday
These two vintage Disneyland images were undated, but the guidebook held by the little boy in the first shot narrows it down to 1956/1957.
I just love little clues like that!
A second detailed view shows the E.P. Ripley as it leaves the Main Street Train Station for another Grand Circle Tour:
This second consecutively shot was the reason I bought these two slides. No, not because of the cool retro sunglasses this lady is wearing…
No, not because of the vintage Disneyland leaflet she is holding (is there ANYTHING less than $3 at the Park anymore?!?)…
The reason: the possibility that this little boy selling the Guidebooks could be actor/writer/musician/comedian Steve Martin.
It’s blurry…it doesn’t show his face, so there’s no way to confirm it. But there’s also a possibility that it is. Thus, Maybe Martin Monday.

I absolutely adore that black-and-white dress paired with the groovy white sunglasses, and it suits her to a T. (I probably wouldn't have gone with a tan purse and shoes, but it doesn't spoil it for me.) Another great look in the background is that red-and-white flowered dress. Cheers me up just to look at it. My old home economics teacher would be rolling in her grave if she saw the lady mixing two different plaids, but what's the point of going to Disneyland if you're not going to have fun and please yourself?
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go ahead on and just declare that is IS Steve Martin. He can sue me if he wants to.
It took me a while to find that 'little boy' in the original picture. You should be the official Disney historian with that analysis, Dave! KS
ReplyDeleteI'm no forensic examiner, although that hasn't stopped me from posing as one on the evening news. Anyhow, that little boy has an awful lot in common with other known pictures of Steve Martin at that age. You can't tell much from the face but there's something about the shoes and that walk that seem consistent. Steve always had kind of big feet. I agree with anonymous above, Dave's sleuthing abilities exceeds the examination of the Zapruder film.
ReplyDeleteYour sleuthing abilities know no equal. And some pretty swell images, too boot-! And for those who just can't wait... a porta-potty-! Disneyland has everything.
ReplyDeleteALSO...
ReplyDeleteThe parade of attraction posters:
Space Station X-1; Fantasyland: Mad Tea Party – Dumbo – Carousel; Rocket to the Moon; Jungle Cruise; Frontierland Tri-Level: Stage Coach – Mine Train Ride – Mule Pack Ride; Autopia; Astrojet; Storybook Land; [would you believe] Art Corner.
Even if it's not Steve Martin, those are both great photos.
