Movieland Wax Museum July 1963

I know nothing about the back story to this July 1963 image, but for some reason this golden vehicle is parked outside of the Movieland Wax Museum in Buena Park.

A detailed view of the decal on the side, complete with movie camera:

Both places are long gone, but the sign for Movieland still remains:

Hey Dave. I love your daily posts!

I believe that car is from the movie "Goldfinger," and the car belonged to the movie's namesake.

    Best regards,
    Ben

Ben's right - that's a Rolls-Royce Phantom similar to and perhaps the actual one used in the film, although the vehicle in the film wasn't painted gold. The July 1963 date seems off, though - Goldfinger didn't start shooting until January 1964 and wasn't released until September of that year.

Cool find, though, Dave. Thanks for posting!

  3. I knew nothing of that Goldfinger reference, only that the owner/creator of Movieland ( Allen Parkinson ) used that car to pick up Sophia Loren and a few other celebrities and drive them to the premiere of their wax figure in it. He had a good rags-to-riches story, too. When two chemical engineers came up with a sleep aid that didn't sell, he bought their invention for pennies on the dollar then named it "Sleep-eze". That money funded this museum-hobby of his as well as the Japanese Deer Park that used to be nearby.

My favorite Movieland story is always the one about Vincent Price swapping places with his wax figure for an hour or two.

Customer - "He looks so lifelike!"

Vincent - "Yeeessssss. So do YOU!"

    Cool stories today.

I visited the Wax Museum once. That was enough.

    Thanks for the pics, Dave.

  5. I'm missing something here I think. Where's Marineland that the Rolls is supposed to be in front of? Both of the photos are the front of the Movieland Wax Museum in Buena Park. As others have said, the owner used to pick up stars and bring them to the Wax Museum in this Rolls for their 'premier' of their new wax figure display.

  6. Beach gal - It's called an early morning goof. At least it gives you something to bust my chops about though.
