Here's a vintage shot of Radio City Music Hall in New York City, circa September 1970. The film on the marquee is the classic comedy "The Out of Towners," starring Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis. This film is not for the faint of heart; by the time you are halfway through you will probably have a case of anxiety that matches that of Lemmon's character, George Kellerman. My brothers and I often laughed about the similarities between our father and Lemmon's portrayal of Kellerman. Call it more of a nervous laugh...not really all that funny when you watched it in action.

In your contemporary view the band Explosions in the Sky are playing (or coming soon). Did you go see them? Great band... have tickets to see them at the Greek Theatre on September 18th. See you Daveland readers there!
ReplyDeleteI remember the film "The Out of Towners" being referenced in my early childhood (very early) but I cannot tell you if I ever saw it.
Always your pal,

I know Sandy's son, Chris. He dresses like Superman and poses for pics in front of the Chinese Theater. A near-dead-ringer for Chris Reeve. Great shots of the changes over the years. The silver offsets the blue very well.
ReplyDeleteMatt - I did not see the Explosions...but glad they are still in biz!
ReplyDeleteBryan - I will have to look for Chris next time I'm in Hollywood!
