Vintage Frontierland Panorama

By taking these two November 1956 vintage Disneyland Frontierland photos and combining them with some computer magic...

we get this lovely panoramic view of Frontierland's Mineral Hall. Very shortly, the area to the right would become the home of Casa de Fritos.

Here's a detailed view of the Mineral Hall storefront:

And a detail of the signage:

Finally, a contemporary comparison shot of what is now the Rancho del Zocalo restaurant:

Those two photos go together spectacularly. It's almost like the photographer knew about Photoshop. Photographic proof that time travel IS possible! ;-)

Thanks for putting this together. Panoramas really help put spatial relationships together, and though I've been in this spot before, it's neat to see it as it was.

  3. Love this. Nice job. Two of my favorite places back in the day, especially when Casa opened, yum. I was entranced by the black light exhibit and so sad when it closed.

  6. Un-real... That is one magical merge. it's seamless, not to mention the ONLY view I have ever seen of those buildings together. Zocalo we all know but the Mineral Hall, I never got to see that. This is great.

  10. Thanks all for the nice comments; this one was really fun to put together. It seriously was as if the photographer had time traveled to give me the two pieces that perfectly lined up!

  11. DAVE, I'm late in adding my congratulations for your superior panorama-patch of early Frontierland. I well remember visiting the Mineral Hall after reveling in the (usually stuffy) Rainbow Caverns ... it was my regular Disneyland routine back in the day.

Also, I like your new "I found this at ..." imprint.
