This gorgeous December 1962 shot of the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship was taken from the Skyway. So many great details to look at here! Best of all, you have a wonderful view of the Chicken of the Sea Mermaid carving featured on the back of the ship:
The large lantern that sits atop the carving is shown in this rare 1950's shot, graciously sent by the family of the man who created it, Anthony Ferro:

I wonder what thew family did with the light? Great pictures, as always.
ReplyDeleteThere was so much that was cool about the original Fantasyland. Chicken of the Sea and Welch's Grape Juice Bar were my favorite food places at Disneyland when I was a child. Thanks, Dave.
ReplyDeleteMRaymond - The family doesn't have the light; that photo was taken before it was put on the ship. Most likely it ended up in the scrap heap.
ReplyDeleteDang, those are awesome shots! I still can't believe that after all these years, the mere sight of those Skyway buckets make me shiver, LOL.
