April at Disneyland: P _ TC
You might have seen the title and thought, "Dave, really…a typo in the title?" No typo at all, readers. I removed the "O" from POTC (Pirates of the Caribbean) in memory of the many animatronic figures that were missing from the attraction. Everything started out alright, and I even hit pay dirt by capturing the skeleton steering the ship at the exact moment that the "lightning" illuminated the scenery.
The skeleton in bed and the one watching over the treasure looked the same.
Things seemed ok at the Wicked Wench…
and the Wench Auction:
Once the boat reached the chase scene, I noticed that the pirate that is normally being chased by a maiden with a rolling pin was frozen. No movement. As they say on MTV, he was "unplugged." In the area where the pirate continually calls, "Here Kitty, Kitty" there only appeared to be one cat.
The hairy-legged pirate over the bridge was gone and the three singing minstrels had been reduced to two. At least the Hat Thief seemed to be in good shape.
The pirate on top of the cannon was gone, removing any logic as to why the pirates across the way were shooting their pistols.
Jack Sparrow seemed oblivious to his missing pals.
It is no surprise the this attraction is going down for a refurb on April 28. The real question would be why is it still open?

Your auction scene photos look postcard perfect.
ReplyDeletePotC always seems to be missing something somewhere along the ride. Last time I went on Pirates, the hat thief and the donkey from the singing trio were missing. And that was in the summer. It seems the park has such high constant usage compared to the old days when an off-season really was a quiet park. Remember when Disneyland was closed on Monday and Tuesday back then in the off seasoon?
Interesting. I saw the missing 3rd minstrel last time but didn't notice the rest, albeit a nagging feeling that something was wrong.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely GREAT shots of an indoor ride in motion. I truly don't know how you do it.
Yes, your pictures do belong on a postcard or in a DL pictorial souvenir book, Dave!
ReplyDeleteI just rode "P_TC" tonight and was really shocked. I agree with you....how can they even keep it operating with so many figures missing? Hey Disney, BAD SHOW!
