Trip Report Pt. 7: Toon Town and Roger Rabbit
The rest of the park was beginning to get congested, so I decided to get off the train in Toontown, just in time for its 10am opening. Not sure if this is the regular protocol, but Minnie was on hand to greet guests with a friendly wave and then lead them through the overpass. It was a nice touch.
Visually, Toontown is one of my favorite places in the park. The bright colors, the wacky architecture, the gags...it really looks fantastic and makes you feel as if you are part of a cartoon.
The reason I rarely visit it is because once you're done looking at the outside of the buildings, windows, and signage, the place falls flatter than a pancake.
I would even go so far as to say that Toontown seems like a bad remnant of the original DCA era of business. All show...all merchandise...no substance.
If you like photo ops though, this might be the place for you. It still grates on me that the Toontown Trolley, the one piece of motion and energy in this area, is bolted down. Get that dang thing moving...in fact, extend its track so it can draw guests in from Central Plaza.
So, as is typical for me, I shot a few photos and made a beeline to Roger Rabbit's Toon Car Spin.
Because I was there at opening, I virtually walked onto this attraction, which is a rarity. The good news is that this attraction's queue is almost as interesting as Indiana Jones'. Plenty to see and chuckle about.
This attraction, while loads of fun, is a bear to shoot.
It's dark as heck and the vehicle continually spins around; thus the name of the attraction!
Still, any attraction with Jessica Rabbit is worth the effort.
With the end of my ride comes the end of this post.
More trip report tomorrow!

I like Mickey's Toontown. Great eye candy for sure. I enjoyed the place quite a bit more when I brought my young niece and nephew to the Park. One of the highlights of their day was meeting Mickey Mouse in the movie barn. I know lots of people hate the Meet-and-Greets, but it's still better than waiting for a free roaming character only to have them walk away while you patiently wait your turn.
ReplyDeleteSince many of the attractions are geared for the younger set, I think it makes a big difference if you have children with you. It makes it a fuller experience. At least that's how I found it to be.
The only thing I don't care for is the cheap off-the-shelf Gadget's Go'Coaster. Even the character doesn't match the era portrayed in Toontown.
I loved the Jolly Trolley when it was double-car, It was cool watching it wobble along down its track. The single-car trolley just didn't have the same energetic effect. It grates me as well that they bolted it down.
For it being difficult to shoot, you did a great job on the Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin interiors. Thanks for the update.
Thanks for these great trip reports!
ReplyDeleteToontown is a great place for young kids to burn off energy after standing in lines all day and sitting still on rides. We hit it first thing in the morning and then again at the end of the day. It ended up being my husband's favorite thing at the park!
Yes, I have to admit, I am probably not the target audience. As long as the kids are enjoying it,then it is at least serving a good purpose!
