Trip Report, Pt. 4: Disneyland at Night!

I promise this is the last post from my most recent trip to Disneyland! Disneyland is a magical place, but never more so than at night...especially when hardly anyone else is around! The Premiere of "On Stranger Tides" provided the perfect opportunity to shoot some long exposure shots at low ISO to capture the most detail. The first three show Adventureland; almost difficult to recognize without the swarm of guests and strollers!

The Haunted Mansion at night looks very other-worldly. I remember as a kid the first time I visited Walt Disney World, I was absolutely convinced that riding The Haunted Mansion at night was a different experience than riding it during the day.

Main Street U.S.A. is an area that drives me crazy most of the time. Too many people waiting for parades, camped out on the curb...hordes of guests tromping through on their way to other lands, not even noticing ALL of the beautiful details...the mobs in line at the registers trying to get that final souvenir before "last call."

However, in the following photos, Main Street can be seen in its pristine glory, brightly lit for all to see.

As a final parting view, The Main Street Train Station. All that's missing is one of the trains!

  2. The only thing I don't enjoy about your trip reports is that it makes me envious of anyone who lives close enough to go there as often as you do.

Nice Main Street shots! I can easily smell those distinct scents. And I often try to be the last one there at night. I find it difficult to walk away without being kindly asked to leave.

  3. Amazing Disneyland After Dark shots, I just put my camera away when it gets dark! That last shot is extra yummy, thanks!

  4. Wow, those are some beautiful night shots. I think the Haunted Mansion example might be my favorite!

  5. Oh I forgot to ask, do you actually lug a tripod around with you all day? Or do you find a convenient trash can (or whatever) to rest your camera on?

  6. Major - a camera bag is bad enough...couldn't be bothered lugging a tripod, too. So you are correct! A trash can does very well for me. As long as i haven't been shooting up or drinking like a fish, my hands are pretty steady on their own, too!

  7. It takes on such a dreamlike quality after dark, doesn't it?

I always have very vivid Disney dreams for a long time after a visit, and they're usually set at night with all the lights on.

  12. Wow, these are great. Thank you.

Magical, and a little eerie. How did you dispose of all the people, Photoshop?

  13. Chris - I think she was still caught in the turnstile.

JG: It was right before closing. The few people remaining after the premiere were still riding rides or exiting. If you look closely, you'll see a few blurred people from leaving the shutter open.
