October 1960 Mish-Mash

Racing towards a rollicking good finish, I present to you a batch of miscellaneous shots from my October 1960 grouping. Anybody need a lamp? I shudder to think of one of these ending up in my home. I believe the front alcove is where the current Silhouette Shop is located. Experts feel free to correct if necessary.

Here's one of the Castle. Is any further explanation necessary?

Well, sure there is. If you zoom in, it would appear that the Ticket Booth visible JUUUUUST on the other side is the one that currently sits over by small world now.

See...it was a good thing I played the Memory Game when I was a little kid. It's paying off in spades now.

A Burning Cabin shot...yup...deader than a doornail.

For these two photos, if you look back and forth real quick, it's almost like the Mark Twain is actually moving! Go ahead...try it! I'll wait.

Other than wishing that Grandma here had crossed her legs (wasn't she taught how to sit like a lady?), there's nothing remarkable that I can see to comment on.

The last photo shows a pre-New Orleans Square Rivers of America. The Frontierland Depot was closer to the water at that time and is just visible beyond the trees. Whatever you do, don't take directions from ladies wearing purple hats!

  1. I was still half asleep with one eye closed when I decided to check your blog. You should have issued a warning. All those orange and yellow lamps hurt my eyes!

You had some great photos today, Dave. Love your comments, too. (But my eyes still burn.) I think I'll come back this afternoon once I'm fully awake.

  2. Dave, I believe that first shot might have been taken in the part of the China Closet that was formerly the Wizard of Bras shop. That doorway is walled up on the inside today, but in the photo you can see the porch, part of the railing and even a chair. You can also see a couple steps "down" just inside the doorway of the shop (behind the lady) which makes sense because there would have been a couple steps "up" from the sidewalk to get to that porch.

  4. There's a 1963 "C ticket (mostly Fantasyland rides) in that ticket booth - your welcome Disneyland...

Man that cabin is blazing full force - WOW!

TokyoMagic seems right, good call! Plus the Candy Palace across the street seems to line up right.

  5. I was at the park last night and the China Closet does appear to line up with this camera angle....even that little window next to the doorway is still there (on the exterior only). The silhouette studio would be through a doorway just to the left of that woman.

You posted a good exterior shot showing the same "gingerbread" on the exterior of the building in your December 15, 2008 post, Dave.

  6. You may poke fun at the lamps, but they are like old friends. My mom had a few of these lamps back in the late 60s (the two semi matching shades in the back ground are particularly familiar).

The little plaster bust, center right, was de rigeur for grand mothers in the 60's as well. Both my grand moms had this bust (it's a copy of a famous French model) plus a matching one of the girl. (Yes the one in the picture is a boy. Remember --- "French")
