June 1959, Pt. 2

In part 2 of my June 1959, I'm still keeping you FAR away from all those newfangled attractions in Tomorrowland. Instead, we’ll continue to circle around Tom Sawyer's Island for a bit.

A different and closer view of Fowler’s Inn & The Columbia:

The Stagecoach is visible, albeit slightly blurry, from the Rivers of America:

The Old Mill and landing area for the rafts, pre-Fantasmic:

This shot appears to have been taken from the front seat of one of the Stagecoaches, peering out over the horses as they approach the pack mules.

The Stagecoach doing its load/unload process at the "station."

Last but not least, one of the Conestoga Wagons. Wonder if they actually painted them a bright blue like this back in the day? That color almost screams, “Hey, come get me!” to the "unfriendly" Indians.

  1. I did a Google Images search for Conestoga wagon and see that blue is a common color, but in limited searching I haven't figured out why. Maybe they were afraid of not being able to find their wagon after going out to hunt?

  2. Obviously these were taken by somebody who knew a thing or two about how to get a nice picture!

  3. Nice shots!

If memory serves, the 'Prussian blue' wagon originated in the Conestoga Valley area of Pennsylvania - an area heavily settled by German immigrants. You'll find most of the design work at Disneyland is based on actual historic fact. Always a nice touch!
