This set of photos comes from a batch of July 1971 shots. Naturally I had to zoom in close for a better look at the signage:
The gorilla was still hanging around as of 1971:
This post marks the final installment of this Sunday series. All good things must eventually come to an end; thanks for stopping by every Sunday to view it!

Dave, as much as I love the JC; I do look frward to it's chang and know it's replacement will be just amazing as ever. Thanks for all those wonderful JC memories.
ReplyDeleteI've got to say I prefer this earlier version of the J.C. Marquee (even though, like the Tiki Room, it owes a lot to carefully concealed Googie architecture of the time).
ReplyDeleteI find today's version far too Pasteurized to be interesting. It's very well done of course, but the new stuff has the look that you could find at a high-end Banana Republic Mall outlet.
The old version also had just the right touch of "gruesome" that little boys love.
This is how I remember the J.C. entrance looking for all of my childhood. It's great to see it again! I agree with Katella...the newer boathouse is nice, but I think I prefer this simpler, more rustic entrance.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dave for posting one of my favorite attractions. Looking forward to Sunday's post.
