May 18, 1958

It may not be a significant day to you, but for this group of guests, it sure was a day of fun and smiles. In shot #1, this guest is so awed to be standing in front of Walt's personal Autopia car that he takes his hat off in respect. In the background, you can see the entrance to the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea movie prop exhibit.

In shot #2, she doesn't give a hoot about cars and motors; she just wants to show off the still very young landscaping.

Over at the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship, you can almost reach out and grab this man’s guide book!

Last stop for today is one of the teepees in the Indian Village with Fort Wilderness in the background:

  1. Fun trip to 1958! Thanks. I'll take his guide book and his snappy hat...

Is Walt's Autopia car in this photo the same one that's at the new Museum in S.F.?

  2. Tim - I have yet to go to the museum, but my guess would be "yes."

  4. I think Walt's car has had a snazzy (and not historically accurate!) paint job for the museum in San Francisco.

  5. Major: I believe it was originally gold. What color is it now?

  6. The car I remember was always a deep purple. Grape, actually. But we only saw it when it was on display in Tomorrowland.

  7. Although B&W, today's photo does support CoxPilot. It's clearly not gold, red, green, blue etc, nor is it black, the shadows are too evident on it... A darkish purple/grape is consistent with what we see.

The ladies aren't all so impressed by the tepees as we might be today (if only we had some to see) - they saw plenty of 'em on the trails on their way out from Nebrasker back in 1892...
