Scholarly Saturdays: Encyclopaedia Britannica & Frontierland, Pt. 2



Back to school, kids, as Scholarly Saturdays have just been reinstated! Joining Bobby & Susie in Frontierland, they are waiting to see some rootin'-tootin' entertainment at the Golden Horseshoe Saloon, proudly sponsored by Pepsi-Cola. Something tells me that the copy for this slide would have to be changed for modern-day audiences:



If you don’t like the Mark Twain, then you might as well just close the browser window now; Encyclopaedia Britannica saw fit to include 4 views of the Mighty Mark!

    Looking at these old photos, I indulge in paleocuisinology, the study of ancient food habits, and I am astonished how many kids had milk with their meals at Disneyland.

    Yikes! In my house, soda-pop was only for special meals at special occasions, but if a trip to Disneyland isn't a special occasion, what is?

  2. Yeeer right Katella, I saw lotsa kids milking their meals during their trip to Disneyland too. But, although Slue Foot Sue was probably at least as big on serving up the dairy then, it probably wasn't thought as appealing to the kids as saying they served soda.

    Dave, think they'd caption it as "It rocks!" today? Or something along that line. But no, not what's on that...

    Good thing I like looking at the Mark Twain. Even better than looking at its namesake! ;)

  3. Milk was the standard then; didn't need any fancy advertising campaigns with milk mustaches back then! And yes Chiana - the boat is much prettier than its namesake - ha!
