1979 Closeups, Pt. 2

Many of us miss the Peoplemover, so here are a few shots to put a nostalgic lump in your throat. The track still sits in Tomorrowland, as a reminder of what used to be and what is now sadly wasted. Now that California Adventure is being "repaired,” let’s hope that the Imagineers start focusing on Tomorrowland next. This closeup shot also features the sign for the Rocket Jets, back when it was a fun attraction towering over Tomorrowland, not an in-your-face-traffic-blocker at the entrance.

Back in the 1970’s tie-dye was all the rage!

A strange closeup, but hey, I’ll take it!

Eeyore is having as much fun as he possibly can.

Just look into his eyes!

  1. People Mover Magic. Thank you for the memories of the special everyday extraordinariness that 'was' Tomorrowland. The magic can be re-captured if they just look with their imagination and heart and not the pocketbook.

Look how shiny the PeopleMover cars are. Love these close-ups!

  3. Love it. I was 9 in 1979, so this is the Disneyland I remember from my childhood. Great images!

  4. Plenty o' Tomorrowland...! I love the queue for the Rocket Jets; there was something about taking that elevator up to the ride that made it so much cooler.

  5. The characters don't get a lot of love, especially the thalidomide costumes done in the 50s and early 60s.

But I want you all to look at the Eeyore costume. Really, you can't do better, particularly around the eyes. Although it's obviously assembled from scrim and fur and foam, it's just as obvious it was built by somebody that had a real appreciation of what the living character was supposed to look like, and had the art skills to pull it off.
