A Daveland Fave Decade: The 1960’s, Pt. 3
While in Central Plaza, we can get a nice unobstructed view of the Castle. The Blaine Gibson statue of Walt & Mickey is many years away; back in 1967, the actual center of the plaza was a very relaxing place with flowers and benches...and even a stroller or two!
Off to the right is the Snow White Wishing Well and statuary area, still in its infancy having been installed only one year previous to this photo.
Once inside Fantasyland, our photographer captured quite a few attractions in just one photo. I spot five; how about you?
A closeup of the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship Restaurant:
Monstro is ready to gobble your boat up over in Storybook Land:
Crowds of people wander over to the far reaches of Fantasyland to explore small world, shortly before their brains turn to mush from listening to its theme song.
Here’s a closeup of the AT&T booth located outside small world where you can talk to Mickey Mouse:
Still more to come! See more Disneyland photos at my website.
Colorful and fun just like the prior entries, yup :)
ReplyDeletehm guess they had to have someone able to do the Mickey voice there all day, every day? With plenty of water?
What can I say it looks like such a fun place to be in every shot doesn't it? Hey the Chicken of the Sea is caught real well in that one. She's cheeky. That's an instant fav of early grotto pics too.
Chiana - Never even thought about it being a live voice; just assumed it was a recording you listened to...but you could be right. Anyone out there know?
ReplyDeleteFunny about the old hub, it was always very quiet, like the eye of a storm. Nobody ever there.
ReplyDeleteI never talked to Micky at the AT&T pavilion, but I did use other phones around the park, and they were all recordings (Generally short recordings to get you off the phone for the next person.)
Great closeup of the AT&T booth; I believe that you just listened to a recording (which you might be able to find online; I think I have it somewhere) of Mickey, as well as Goofy, Snow White, Donald, and some others as well. You didn't actually have a conversation with the characters, but kids were used to that from their toy phones at home!
ReplyDeleteThis has to be one of the greatest runs of pictures ever on your blog. Fantastic. Miss the COS Ship!
ReplyDeleteI believe the booth in front and to the left of the AT&T booth is the one where you could get your charicature drawn....I think I even spot an overhead projector in that close-up shot. And just on the other side of that is the Fantasyland ticket booth that has been moved a little to the north, but is still standing today as the Kodak "Film-Information" kiosk.
ReplyDeleteSorry....caricature!
ReplyDeleteWow!! I've never seen an actual picture of that AT&T booth near "Small World"!! I've seen drawings of it on blueprints and heard it mentioned before, but never ever saw it!! It was set up to showcase the Bell Picturephone. Guests could speak to visitors at current World's Fairs. 1966-through 1967, guests could see and talk to visitors at EXPO67 on a Bell PICTUREPHONE.....Bell Telephone and TAC (Telephone Association of Canada0 worked together to offer this experience----The TELEPHONE ASSOCIATION OF CANADA Pavilion featured the Circle-Vision film, "CANADA '67" by Walt Disney Productions!!
