Although Walt does not look well in this shot, there is still much optimism here as he takes the pointer in hand and proudly shows the exciting new attractions planned for the park in the upcoming year. All of these attractions/areas are still going strong and impressing new guests as they witness the genius and creativity behind each one.
New Orleans Square:
Pirates of the Caribbean:
it’s a small world:
Primeval World:
These attractions represent some of the last things that bore the personal stamp of Walt Disney. Next time you’re at Disneyland, be sure to pay extra special attention to each one. See more Disneyland photos at

Hi Dave, great post! I’m working on a future post “Photos of Walt I’ve never seen” and the photo in you post is one of them! Well almost, see this page (link) from “The Disney World” magazine Feb-March 1966 edition. It has a full page about that press conference and a different photo of Walt up at the big map and he looks a little better in that photo.
ReplyDeleteWhen you see pictures of Walt on opening day, and then pictures 10 years later, it's amazing how much he aged.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much longer he would have lived if he hadn't smoked? He was only 65! Can you imagine if he had lived just another 10 years? What other incredible things would we have seen come from him? How different would DL and WDW be today? And would the REAL Epcot have been built?
ReplyDeleteGreat post today...wonderful photos as usual!
