Disneyland, February 1971

I know there are a few 70’s fans out there, so just for you, I am going to devote a few days to one of my least favorite decades. And I can say that, cause I was there for every year of that polyester era. Today we spend a little time in Fantasyland, starting off with a view of small world, currently undergoing a refurbishment, due to open in approximately one month. If you weren’t sure it was the 70’s, you’d know in shot #2 by the decidedly funky type-style choice for the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship Restaurant. Mr. Smee is visiting with us today.

For this cherished view of Skull Rock Cove, I promise not to lament again the passing of this area of Fantasyland. Not one word from me. I promise.

Before we leave Fantasyland, let’s take another look at the Matterhorn, taken from the Tomorrowland side.

Come back tomorrow and spend some time over in Frontierland, ya hear? See more vintage & current Fantasyland photos at my regular website.

  1. I love the way the Small World area looked back then. No junky Light Magic projection towers, no Videopolis/Fantasyland Theater. The area is open and clean. I also like the original Small World shop on the right side of the walkway. Remember the dolls of the world that were sold there? They also sold Small World music boxes and the Small World picture disc. And the caricature stand on the left with the yellow and orange turret. I wonder what ever happened to that structure? Oh, and you can even see the train that sold ice cream bars alongside the Motor Boat fence! Does that still exist somewhere in Fantasyland today?????

  2. Gee Dave, you're being a bit tough on an entire decade! I was there too, and it definitely had its down side. Disco for instance! But there were great movies, some great music (punk rock was born), some classic TV shows...

Just wait until all the kids are into the great old days of the "00's"!
