Disneyland in Focus: Carousel of Progress, Pt. 4

Father is in the kitchen, eating a sandwich, as the Carousel rotates us into Fall, 1940’s. Mother looks like she needs a ton of help with the wallpaper; something tells me this is not her area of expertise—somebody, please call Ty Pennington!

Does anyone know if these weight reducing machines really did anything for your figure?

The kids are enjoying that new-fangled invention called TV. I’m sure it won’t last long and is probably just a fad.

Grandpa and Grandma finish out the scene; don’t worry about Grandpa...he’s just resting his eyes.

We are one rotation away from the present! See more vintage Carousel of Progress photos at my regular website.

  1. The move to Florida resulted in even more changes for the 1940's scenes. They got rid of the little girl altogether. They put the boy in a bedroom scene playing with a model airplane (in the last redo, they changed it so he's carving a jack o' lantern). Then they took the TV that the kids were watching and put it in the grandparent's scene and got rid of the radio that they were listening to. I wonder what they did with the A.A. of the little girl???

  4. It always amused me that our family had that very same TV. It was the second on the block, and we got it in 1949. It was a Tela-King. The screen was smaller than my first 128k Macintosh, and we had a large magnifying class hung in front of the screen. Of course, you had to be sitting right in front of the thing to see it, but who cares. Hoppy came in great.

  5. Those vibrating belt machines were popular for a long time, but were eventually pulled off the market because they were linked to kidney damage.

I seriously doubt they did any good: you loose weight by exercising more or eating less, or both.

BTW, these pictures are stunning: do you have any of the "color organ" that was used in the pre-show theater?

  6. Oooooh yes, the "Kaleidophonic Wall". Do you have any pics of that, Dave??? (And yes, I'm still drooling over these COP posts of yours!)

  7. Seeing the kids watching TV from BEHIND the scrim is pretty cool. Look how great they look. Love the boy's socks!

The color organ was my part of the show when I saw it in the late 1960s & I can't find any videos of it.
