Twiggy at Disneyland, June 1967

Awhile ago, I posted this photo of the famous 60’s model, Twiggy, cavorting on the Matterhorn with a few pals. This publicity still was taken while she filmed a television special that included footage of her at Disneyland. In the meantime, I have scrounged up a few other photos of her from the same visit. I am guessing that the gift shop she is in is located in Fantasyland. Anybody recognize this place? Of course checking out the 60’s merchandise (including a Flying Saucer and giganormous pencils) is half the fun.

See more Disneyland Twiggy photos at my website.

  4. Dave, I don't know if the filming and photos were taken then, but the only mention I find of Twiggy in newspaper is from April 28, 1967, saying she visited the previous day. The photos are definitely from Fantasyland (look for the reflection of Castle bricks), but to me the rather barren theming argues against Tinkerbell's Toy Shop. The Castle stores at the time were the Arts, Crafts and Clock Shop and the Castle Candy Shoppe. Maybe it was the Fantasy Gift Fair, on the Skyway side of the Fantasyland Theatre?

  5. Well, I have no proof, but I'll bet it is Tinkerbell's Toy Shop.

I love the guy with the Donald Duck hat and the cigarette!

Gee Dave, I didn't know you were old enough to have taken pictures in the 60's!

  6. I guess I've never seen the interior of the Toy Shop pre-1983. Maybe it didn't have much theming!

  7. Dave. I'm 99% sure it IS Tinkerbell's Toyshop. I seem to remember those "upsidedown crown" light fixtures (last photo). The shop was rather plain in those days, and didn't seem to jazz it up until later. Didn't change names in the late '60's? I also remember those "bottle bottom" decor on the cabinets.

  9. So Twiggy was a pretty good shopper. In her hand she holds the late 1960s version of the Marty Sklar Disneyland hardbound book (full cover featuring Sleeping Beauty Castle), a Tinkerbell apron with crayons, two Disneyland Mickey Mouse shirts, two Tinkerbell glow wands on the card, and a couple of the large pencils. Her friend is wearing a Mickey Mouse I Like Disneyland flasher pin and is looking at one of the camera viewers featuring images of Disneyland. Of course for maximum dollar she should have grabbed more of the glow in the dark Tinkerbell wands and the Flying Saucers on the back wall (as frisbee collectors have paid very high prices for the Disneyland frisbees.) In the baskets in front of her are Tinkerbell coin purses, Mickey MOuse fans and what looks like Disneyland sunglasses.

By the way, great shots Dave. Wish I owned them.

Hello :) I'm not a huge Disney fan but my mother is. She still mentions a Glow in the Dark Tinkerbell wand that she purchased and lost from long ago. For Christmas this year I want to get her one of those wands. My problem is this is the only site that mentions it. I cannot seem to find one anywhere. Any of you know of any places/websites you could refer me to? I would most appreciate it! Thanks!

  11. Anonymous: For a vintage Disneyland item, your best bet is ebay.

  12. I have to mention the Tinker Bell Glow-in-the-Dark Wands too! It was one of my favorite toys EVER!! I went to Disneyland in the mid-60's and it was something that I cherished forever. With the wands, you have to realize that NO ONE had even heard of Glow-in-the-Dark items at that time. They were really rare and hardly anyone even had color televisions in those days. The wand was about 10" or so and a pale cream color with a solid star. You held it up to a lightbulb and then it would glow a greenish color for a long time. My star broke off after a few years, but I kept the wand for years. Probably one of my top 10 toys as a child!
