Winter at Disneyland, 1964/65: Main Street

Picture this: you’re a child on your first visit to Disneyland. After getting over the wonder of arrival after stepping off the tram, you see the Train pull into the Main Street Station. Hurrying under one of the two tunnels (always a difficult choice to pick which one!), you enter Town Square and walk smack dab into Mickey Mouse. Could the day get any better? Image #1 shows such a lucky lass. On the other end of the spectrum, picture this: you are a child on your first visit to Disneyland. You enter Main Street and your eyes dart all around at the amazing sights, lights, and fascinating characters. And then it happens...you step in horse shit. Image #2 shows 2 young lads who encountered such luck.

Yup, it’s Christmas on Main Street, circa 1964. Here’s a lovely nighttime shot featuring the star on top of the Matterhorn:

Last shot for today, our Main Street mode of transportation is the Horse-Drawn Streetcar, and we have been dropped off at the hub in anticipation of the day’s next choice: what land to visit first? If life’s choices were only that simple every day.

  1. It looks like a real winter in that second photo--all that's missing is the snow! It's also neat to see the star at night... I don't think I've ever seen such a photo.

  2. I wonder what that boy is thinking as he is looking at what he just stepped in? Those shoes are coming off before he gets into Dad news Buick!

Great Christmas tree shot, love the star and deep blue sky....

    Thanks Dave!

I detect a rather odd pattern of phrasing here. Is that really what you meant to write? Or were you, perhaps, distracted?

  4. Hey anonymous - nothing odd other than a pattern of hitting the wrong letter twice - nothing more than that.

  5. You are the King o' the Blogs today: the Matterhorn Christmas Star at night! I've seen some great images of the star in daylight but this is the first time ever I've seen it illuminated. It was a beauty!
