Winter at Disneyland, 1964/65: Fantasyland Pt. 1

Skull Rock: what an icon. One of the best places in the park to relax and enjoy your lunch or a snack while listening to the cascading sounds of the waterfalls. And where better to get your noon-time meal than the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship Restaurant?

After filling up your belly, a few spins on Dumbo ought to help make sure your meal has settled properly in your stomach.

Our photographer loved the Three Little Pigs and especially the Big Bad Wolf; here are some of his glorious shots:

  2. dave,

could not agree more. a lunch time stop at the c of t s and then sitting at shull rock cove was always lunch time plan 'A' when at the park. some how, a bite to eat and a few minutes rest at this wonderful location added so much enjoyment and a whole handful of memories. all of which were based around a tuna sandwich and a fake pirate boat.

  3. Ditto thufer. COTS was always one of my favorite places to relax. Great pics Dave, though the Pigs & Wolf scared the hell out of me.

  4. Yes, as a kid, the costumed characters scared me. What can I say, I was a chicken!! I finally got over it and had my picture taken with Buzz Lightyear a while ago. Mother would be so proud! ;-)

  6. The three best places in the Park to relax were the Chic O the Sea, Coke Corner & Carnation Icecreame (in that order). All of the photos of COTS are always in the daytime, but it was a really nice place at night. There were a lot of colored lights around the water, with piped in music, and you could get hot chocolate from the ship.

  7. Practical Pig has quite an expression. I wonder why they did not soften him a little bit to make him less scary.

Wow... I don't think they've even updated the Big Bad Wolf's costume AT ALL over the years! I think they might've just changed the mask a bit at one point in the 1970s, but that was about it.
