January 1968 is the date of this beauty showing the PeopleMover (rather the no-people PeopleMover in this shot) and the Rocket Jets. For those who prefer their PeopleMover vehicles in Red, here’s a second view:

ReplyDeleteOf course the Flight Circle also tells you it's Classic Tomorrowland, since that colossal waste of a LARGE space was located at the exact spot where the People Mover Loading dock & Rocket Jets were soon to be erected.
ReplyDeleteLove this photo of the flight circle. I worked there at that time. However; I remember that we had put up small display platforms around the circle for the Cox planes in 1962, and they are not in the photo. Are you sure of the date of the pic?
ReplyDeleteHey anonymous: The date is what is stamped on the back of the cardboard; doesn't necessarily mean that it was taken the same month/year, but usually people don't wait longer than a few weeks at a time to develop slides. That's as much as I know. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you right. It's been a long time, and memories tend to fade. I would love to see more on the flight circle. I worked there from summer of '59 to the end of summer of '65 when the Cox ThimbleDrome finally shut down for the new tomorowland. (Wen-Mac had the contract before Cox, but I didn't work for them.) I also remember that, for a while, they used the circle after us for Jet Pack demonstrations. I've seen short films of it, but never any stills.
ReplyDeleteAfter looking at the tomorrowland photos further, I realized that the photo is "October", that all the chairs around the circle are no longer there, the displays are gone, and is probably the last pic of the circle before demolition. If you look close at the other photos, you can see all the chairs, the circular displays (just inside the fence on poles), and one of my co-workers. (Maybe me). Gone are the days.
