Part 3 takes place in Tomorrowland, with the Flying Saucers (would love to have ridden those!) and the Midget Autopia. Both were closed down in 1966. Thanks to Jordan for the help with the Midget Autopia. And all you PC people, don’t get mad at me, I didn’t name the damn thing.

WOW, WOW, WOW! Great two shots with detail and composition. The Dad must have been a pretty good amateur photographer!
ReplyDeletethats actually the midget autopia. i believe the junior autopia was the full size cars with adjusted break pedals and there was still need for an even smaller version...thus the midget autopia!
ReplyDeletei dont think disney would get away wt the word 'midget' today as some little people might get their feathers ruffled...
one of the best shots of i've seen of it!
2 wonderful shots, I think I only have one midget autopia slide, and it is blurry!
ReplyDeleteMy brother and I were about the same age as these girls in '64. Navigating the Saucers required some weight, so that's why the girls are riding tandem. I had to ride with my little brother. It took awhile for us to figure out how to coordinate shifting our weight to go in the desired direction. Meanwhile, teens and adults would go skimming by with little effort, I did get to ride solo before the Saucers closed.
ReplyDeleteI'd long had memories of driving through a building on a Disneyland Autopia, but it wasn't until "The Nickel Tour" that I learned it was on the Midget Autopia. I also remember the ride operator as your picture shows.
Yeah, I'm old.
