Connie - I was being cursed at by a homeless person while I shot that first photo. JG - Glad someone else "gets it"!Davelandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10720475138513029144noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29249921.post-30419330985224557552011-01-18T22:16:09.488-08:002011-01-18T22:16:09.488-08:00Nice post, Dave. I used to work in West LA, Santa Monica, Brentwood, Westwood, quite a bit a long, long time ago. There was a distinct "old LA" feel in those neighborhoods. Hard to quantify exactly. You're a visual guy, you know what I mean. The sign, for instance, of the Marmont, that's out of a daydream, or an imaginary memory. I feel like Philip Marlowe will come walking into that room at any moment.

New buildings don't have that feel anymore. You can't get the right feel with the new codes for energy or seismic stuff. Only the old buildings still feel right.

Sorry for the long droning post, but I really liked this entry.

thank you.

JGJGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15456196709930408585noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29249921.post-11066583603777395082011-01-15T23:33:31.247-08:002011-01-15T23:33:31.247-08:00Holy cow, you STAYED there? The only thing I can think of is that Sophia Coppola wanted the audience to fill in the blanks about his life and wants and needs themselves rather than have them spelled out by her (" I just want to be loved!!" or something awful like that) - which is not a terrible thing (I like it when the director trusts the audience); it's just that he doesn't come across across as a very interesting guy, even though he is basically likeable.Major Pepperidgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09843598326995116014noreply@blogger.com
