If you were a Tomorrowland cast member in 1980, chances are you'll enjoy seeing this photo. A generous reader sent me this image, which also includes Disneyland Ambassador Nancy Englert (Murray). What a cool snapshot in time—the PeopleMover, Adventure Thru Inner Space, and a wide-open entrance into the land of the future. Enjoy—and see if you recognize anyone else!

I wish all my clothing looked like that!
ReplyDeleteIs Donald laying an egg?
The only person I might know from this section of the park is Mary Anne Griego, and I think this picture is a few years too early.
ReplyDeleteSo utterly cool. I get the same buzz looking at this as I do looking at vintage photos of rock bands. This was my favorite era of Tomorrowland, and the people who made it sing.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the photo was just a few years to late. Did they do this every year? I don't recall cast member photos during the 60's, but it would be great to see.
ReplyDeleteI have 30 years of these from Hughes Aircraft Company though.
I love this photo! But it makes me very sad because it's a reminder about the current state that Tomorrowland is in. They've DESTROYED it, I tell 'ya! This land and all of it's attractions used to be my favorite part of Disneyland. Now I prefer not to walk through there unless it's to ride Space Mountain. Thanks to Dave and his "generous reader" for sharing this! Hey, there's a Matterhorn employee up there on the PeopleMover track!
ReplyDeleteCool picture! I worked there 1977-1981 and I believe
ReplyDeletethat I found myself in the photo- back row center,
subs uniform, directly above the lady supervisor in the
very center with the dark dress & glasses. A lot of
good memories & familiar faces, but unfortunately
after 29 years I can't recall most of the names...
A great photo, but also a sad reminder of how bad things have gotten in Tomorrowland. I can't beleive how clean and beautiful it looks. So sad. So sad.
ReplyDeletehannibal8 - do you remember going up there for the photo? - and if so - did you walk the track or ride a people-maker to get there?
ReplyDeleteA lot of the people in the photo must be roughly the same age as I am - I graduated high school in '79 and even though I know NO ONE in the picture, because of the age - and the era, everyone looks so . . . . familiar.
And now we're all pushin' 50. Oh, my head.
Hrundi V. Bakshi- I am part of the group on the
ReplyDeleteground level, so I'm not up on the track. Based on
where the sun is, it is early in the day and the rides
were not operating. The castmembers on the track
probably walked from the peoplemover station to
the location for the photo.
...And I know what you mean, I graduated in '77 and
sometimes it does not seem that long ago but then
again it was.
Wow... I just got back from Disney World in Florida, and some of the cast member costumes (Like in STAR TOURS) STILL look like this! LOL!!
