The Driskill Hotel

On a recent trip to Austin, Texas, I had the pleasure of staying at the Driskill Hotel, approximately 10 years after my last visit there. Fortunately, this time I was armed with a much better camera and (I would like to think) an improved eye for shooting. Everything about this historic 1886 establishment screams Texas. Large and just a tad bit overdone, it is nonetheless a good choice for accommodations for those visiting this part of the Lone Star State.

How 'bout that lobby?

The hotel's vault still exists in the lobby:

I wonder what kind of treasures were in here back in the day?

The room was appropriately updated and very comfortable.

I don't believe I have ever seen a hotel bathroom with higher ceilings. And those columns...yes, definitely Texas.

A custom sink:

Even the artwork throughout the hotel screams Texas, for better...

or worse.

Next time you find yourself in Austin, be sure to visit this amazing hotel!
