Mary Blair Monday

While this installation of classic Mary Blair in Tomorrowland is greatly missed, it has always seemed a bit out of place stylistically for the land which it was created. This September 1968 shot provides a nice view of this long-gone mural by the beloved Disney artist.

Today, Buzz Lightyear Astroblasters has taken over the real estate where Blair once resided.

More vintage (and current) Tomorrowland photos at my main website.

I think the murals worked in New Tomorrowland '67 when it first opened in the 1960's as it had a world's fair vibe to it, but over time it didn't seem to fit anymore. I'm okay with the murals that are there now because at last they match in style for both BLAB and Star Tours. What I didn't like was one mural left while the other changed. Then it really made the Mary Blair mural look out of place. And I didn't like the Tomorrowland 1998 mural at all.

It's good to have you back, Dave. Thanks for all the work you put into your blog.

When I was a kid in the 80's I wondered why there was a small world mural in tomorrowland. Now I appreciate the style in and of itself and am glad the mural at The Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World is still intact and honored.
