Round the Corner

Many at first glance would have dismissed this 1958 shot as merely a poor composition. I, on the other hand, was extremely excited to see the short-lived Disneyland Viewliner creeping into the left-hand side of the frame. If only the photographer had waited a second or two to capture more of this retro classic.

Even better when you zoom in.

More Viewliner photos at my main website.

Love this pic. The trestle track reminds me of model railroading track used to get the train aligned on the track. Wonder why they put it on the bridge? To protect if from derailment? Thanks, Dave.

That's essentially correct, K. Martinez. Guard rails are intended to keep the wheels in alignment and reduce damage to a bridge, crossing, or turnout (switch) if a derailment occurs. In the case of a bridge derailment, it would also help reduce the chances of the rolling stock falling off the bridge.
