Look to the Future...

when you have no time to post anything substantial. Disneyland Tomorrowland Spaceman, circa 1957/58.

Of course I have supplied a closeup of his embroidered insignia and futuristic doohickie belt.

More shots of the man of tomorrow at my main website.

They had to have made more than one costume I would think. I wonder where some of these ended up besides some "Disney Parks" exhibit. More great stuff from Daveland as usual. Especially the zoom-in. Thanks, Dave.

There were several costume styles, but I haven't sat down to figure out how many. Oddly, the complexity of the fabric designs seemed to ebb and surge over the years, some early ones were sparsely detailed, then baroque collars and sleeves, then simpler again. The gadget belts, air tanks and jet propulsion packs seem to be pretty early accessories which were dropped in the later versions. Maybe they were uncomfortable to wear. The helmets had to be a burden.

I'm always a sucker for the space folks, thanks Dave.

I am kind of fascinated by the Spaceman costume - it almost seems as if no two photos show the same outfit.
