1959 Faded Treasures

You'll be seeing a few shots from this vintage batch of color-shifted gems. They may be low in quality, but many are high in fun and rare views of Disneyland circa 1959. How do I know that these undated beauties are from 1959? Two reasons: the guidebook in grandma's hand is from 1958-1959 (as pointed out by other Disneyland Geeks who spend way more time than I do boning up on this kind of info):

and because there are shots that include the Matterhorn (coming in the very near future!). Here's a shot of the 1958-1959 Guidebook Cover:

One more for today shows grandma and granddaughter on the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship. The Park is doing exactly what Walt wanted it to: bridge the generational gaps by creating fun that all ages could enjoy together.

Nice catch of the swan in the castle moat.

How do you know it's from 1958 and not 1959? Aren't the front covers identical even though the back cover and interior pages are a little different and the 1959 booklet contained the special inserts? Or is there another clue I've missed?

Oh, Ken beat me to it! Yes, the cover of the '59 book is basically identical. Of course if there are other pictures in the bunch showing obvious things like the Matterhorn, then we'll know for sure.

Ken and David - You have won the contest for today's biggest Disneyland Geeks. You are correct - there was a shot of the Matterhorn in one of the images. I bow down to your superior attention to detail!
