May 1964 Treasures, Pt. 3

Disneyland Enchanted Tiki Room May 1964 photo

Our May 1964 girls seem to have recovered sufficiently enough from the Matterhorn to be able to enjoy a little air conditioned comfort in Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room. Those purses they have are cracking me up.

I am guessing that this particular shot is the last one from their trip, arms full of souvenirs and the balloon that was purchased from the Town Square vendor.

I'd venture to say that they had a good time.

I wonder if the original tiki god statues like Rongo are still there or if they're replaced with a duplicate through the years. I'd think the weather elements would deteriorate them with the passage of time.

Really enjoyed your May 1964 series, Dave. Also, looks like you'll be hitting a major milestone in a few of months. Enjoy.

Looks like both gals have the then very trendy, must have mohair cardigans on! The black (?) clutch purse - ohy vey - such a bad choice for a day at the Kingdom - I always made sure I took an over the arm purse (shoulder bags were not in fashion for a few more years).

I remember mixed feelings often when walking through that last archway to the exits. It had such a feeling of finality to that days adventures - no going back for one last ride, if even if was just a fast one on the merry-go-round; but then sometimes it was welcomed when I was beyond dead tired from all the running around.
