Screen Gem Saturdays: Elizabeth Taylor Tribute

As a tribute to the recently departed Elizabeth Taylor, here’s a few photos of her from my collection. First up are two previously posted photos of Liz with Eddie Fisher and kids at Disneyland.

At Club 33 in 1973 with her family:

Obviously Disneyland was a favorite spot of hers, since her 60th birthday was held there on February 27, 1992. Can you imagine renting out the park for just you and your friends?!?

This photo was taken on the set of “Rebel Without A Cause.” Liz is wearing a costume from “Giant,” in which James Dean would costar with her.

A few on set photos of Liz in “Giant,” with Rock Hudson & Mercedes McCambridge. These were taken in Marfa, Texas.

Last but not least, a painting that I did many moons ago inspired by “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.”

Love the pic from Giant. My wife is from near-by Uvalde, TX, and we visited the house ( Reata ) about 15 years ago (Today the Reata is just a pile of rubble with a few of the treated timbers rising to the sky. It blew down in a windstorm years ago. The oil derricks lie on their side in the Evans horse pasture.)

ps: Today the only center for Giant devotees traveling to Marfa is the Hotel Paisano in San Antonio, which was recently remodeled to its 1955 look and feel. The lobby display has several photographs of the stars, and you may watch a videotape of the film in a special screening room.

Working just down the street from DL, I remember driving past the park back in Feb of 1992 and seeing all the hotel and motel signs with 60th birthday wishes for Miss Taylor. Seems like it was not that long ago. Wow, almost 20 years now.

Very nice tribute, Dave. Your painting is incredible!

Wonderful tribute! Never will there be anyone like her. A true Hollywood star and legend, so many of them now gone. Makes me feel melancholy.
Beautiful painting, Dave. You are so very talented, a true gift.
