Sailing Through Sundays on The JC: Suwanee Lady, August 1956

This dock shot of the Suwanee Lady is from August 1956. Looks like the one lady is going to have to talk her friend into braving this trip! See more Disneyland Jungle Cruise photos at my website.

Check out what the skipper is wearing???? Was he related to Hue Hefner?

The Suwannee River is a short swampy river that drains the Okefenokee swamp (of Pogo fame) in SW Georgia and drains into the gulf.

It's famous only because it starts Stephen Foster's song Old Folks at Home. "Way down upon the Swanee River..."

He originally was going to use the Pee Dee river in the Carolinas, but probably switched river names cause Suwannee is smoother sounding.

BTW, there's a million ways to spell this river, and you've seen four of them today.

Great post...there's definitely plenty of elbow room on that dock.
