Casa de Fritos, January 1966

Casa de Fritos...one of the more famous eateries that once graced Disneyland. Originally located in the New Orleans Street section of Disneyland, it moved to this location in 1956 and was replaced by the Silver Banjo BBQ in its former location. I believe the musicians featured here are the Gonzalez Trio. I have also included a closeup of the menu on the wall.

And Georgie...in anticipation of your request, here’s the closest I have to a current shot of the same location, which now features El Zocalo, one of my newly discovered restaurant faves at the park.

See more vintage and current Frontierland photos on my regular website.

That's a really nice shot of the band with nobody there! Perhaps it was taken shortly after opening? I can't imagine today's Disneyland having entertainment scheduled with so few people around!

My new favor restaurant has been put in the “way-back machine”! Great picture! Hey, is the arch and planter still the same as in your 1956 photo? I just assumed the whole area has been torn down and redone, but that arch area (left side in your new photo) looks the same? Stuff that has remained all this time at Disneyland intrigues me to no end. Casey Jr. Ticket booth comes to mind :-)

Thanks Dave!!!!

Good grief, that first photo looks like it could have been taken yesterday. Amazing!

I've done a small bit of research and I believe the arch is the same---The restaurant was re-configured around it. And leaving it was a nice touch I think...

I believe the archway and the fireplace are the same from the 1950's. The walkway behind the fireplace and current entrance was a backstage area before the location was re-opened in 2000. The current inside dining area is the old serving area and kitchen. The current serving area was the old location's(Casa Mexicana) managers office and the costodial offices. Being a former cast member at Casa Mexicana(1986-2000) I have many great memories there.
